“You can’t change the world by rescuing one horse, but for that one horse, its life is changed forever.”
Adopting a Rescue Horse
Some of the horses at the Rescue are available for adoption. We can’t list them all because they arrive and then get adopted very quickly. If you’re considering adoption, please fill out this Adoption Questionnaire, so that we can begin a conversation with you about what sort of horse you’re looking for, your level of experience, etc.
If you see a horse on the website or our Facebook page that you are interested in knowing more about or if you are looking for a specific type of horse, please contact Phyllis Elliott by phone, text, or email. Make arrangements to visit the farm so you can spend some time with the horse so you can determine if you think it would be a good fit for you. Phyllis will also meet with you and talk about what you’d like to do with the horse (trail riding, dressage, eventing, or non-ridden activities, for example), so she can assess the match.
When you are ready to adopt, fill out and return the Adoption Application. Once your references are checked, as well as where the horse will be boarded, and your veterinarian and farrier information, Phyllis will send you a contract to sign, filled in with all of the terms of your agreement with Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue (you can see a blank contract here.)
PLEASE NOTE: All adoptions require that you keep HPF informed of any changes in the horse’s status, location, and health. The agreement is a legal contract—you are making a formal, legal commitment to the terms of the agreement. If you violate the contract in any way, you will be liable for any and all legal, veterinary, transportation, and other expenses that the Rescue incurs on the horse’s behalf.
All of the horses at the Rescue are in need of financial support from sponsors. Because horses the we take in tend to get adopted very quickly, we no longer list them on the website. If you are looking for a horse to adopt, please contact Phyllis Elliott via text, phone, or email (see Contact Us page for details) to find out about available horses.
