Adopting or Leasing an HPF Rescue

There are many horses at the Rescue that are available for adoption or an on-farm lease.

Adopting a horse

If you see a horse on the website or our Facebook page that you may be interested in adopting, please contact Phyllis Elliott. You should make arrangements to visit the farm. Spend some time with the horse so you can determine if you think it would be a good fit for you. Phyllis will also meet with you and talk about what you’d like to do with the horse (trail riding, dressage, eventing, or non-ridden activities, for example), so she can assess the match. When you are ready to adopt, fill out and return the Adoption Application. Once your references are checked, as well as where the horse will be boarded, veterinarian and farrier information, Phyllis will send you a contract to sign, filled in with all of the terms of your agreement with Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue (you can see a blank contract here.)

PLEASE NOTE: All adoptions require that you keep HPF informed of any changes in the horse’s status, location, and health. The agreement is a legal contract—you are making a formal, legal commitment to the terms of the agreement. If you violate the contract in any way, you will be liable for any and all legal, veterinary, transportation, and other expenses that the Rescue incurs on the horse’s behalf.

Leasing a horse

Leasing a horse is an excellent way to get to know a horse you’re interested in adopting. We offer full, on-farm leases for our available horses for $550/month.*

When a horse is being leased, it is put “on hold” for adoption—i.e., it will not be available for adoption by anyone but the person leasing it.  Leases are month-to-month, with the full fee due on the 1st of the month.

If you are interested in leasing any of the available horses or want to learn more, please call or text Phyllis Elliott at 603-568-6654 or send email.

*As of 3/1/2022, in consideration of rising costs to care for our rescued horses, we reserve the right to raise the fee with 30 days’ notice.
