Brentwood Newsletter, January 2019

“The day starts early at Hidden Pond Farm in Brentwood. Horses need to be fed and turned out, stalls need to be cleaned, water buckets filled, hay put out in the paddocks. Rain, shine, sleet, or snow, the horses’ needs always come first.”

On the Road: The Homes for Horses Coalition Conference

January 10, 2019 by webmaster

In September 2018, Phyllis and a group of HPF cowgirls attended the Homes for Horses Coalition Conference in Orlando, Florida. After hearing about last year’s event, the girls were very eager to go, and worked hard to raise the money for their travel expenses.

At the conference they participated in workshops on fundraising, grants, effective digital presence, working with law enforcement, engaging trainers, and getting horses adopted The girls also attended a day-long hands-on horse training clinic with the HSUS Forever Foundation program trainer, Trevor Carter. It was a great learning experience and everyone had a great time!

HPF wins 2018 ASPCA Help A Horse Day grant

January 10, 2019 by webmaster

In the summer of 2018, the Rescue was awarded a $7500 grant from the ASPCA as part of its nationwide “Help a Horse Day” campaign. More than 100 equine rescue groups across the nation entered the contest, holding events that raised awareness about the plight of American horses. During the two-month campaign, we had a public event at the farm, placed 14 horses into permanent homes, raised over $37,000, and recruited six new volunteers, coming in 2nd place in our division.

The grant was awarded for much-needed wellness therapies and training the horses need to ensure that they’re in good shape and ready to be adopted.

We submitted this short video as part of our entry.
