Community

They say it takes a village, and it does. Our community includes the wonderful people who take care of the Rescue’s veterinary and wellness needs, and organizations that educate the public and fight to end horse slaughter, as well as the many equine rescues with which we collaborate. We couldn’t do what we do without their support and expertise.

13 Hands Equine Rescue is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Animal Rescue. We specialize in the rescue of unwanted, abused, and slaughter-bound horses. Most of our horses are rescued from kill pens and auction houses where we are their last chance.

All of our horses are sent to a quarantine facility for 30 days so they can rest and regain their health and strength.Once they are approved by a licensed veterinarian, they are sent to our facility and begin their journey to the horse they were meant to be. Many of them will be trained and evaluated to be used in our Equine Therapy program for veterans and children. Others will be adopted by loving homes and some will stay and become 13 Hands fulltime residents. They will remain with us in safety and free from abuse for the rest of their days.

We are proud to be a Platinum Guidestar member!

Our mission is to save slaughter-bound miniature horses by intercepting them at a few different points in the slaughter pipeline. We then rehabilitate them, love them and get them ready for their forever homes. We also have a very small animal sanctuary at home set on 5 acres of land. We have quite a few permanent residents (horses, goats, ducks, chickens) who require special care.
