Creating a Lasting Legacy: Bonnie Flythe’s Gift

A charitable trust is a gift that truly keeps on giving.

Bonnie and Tibi
Bonnie and her beloved horse Tibi

When Faith “Bonnie” Flythe met Phyllis Elliott, Bonnie was taking riding lessons on Phyllis’ horses at Hidden Pond Farm. Bonnie loved horses, and she’d been working with a nonprofit horse rescue in a nearby town for many years.

Phyllis was intrigued by the idea of rescuing horses headed to slaughter. She and Bonnie had many conversations about how to go about starting  a rescue at Hidden Pond Farm, and what it would take to make it happen. Phyllis listened and learned, and Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue was established as a nonprofit in 2015.

Shortly after Bonnie passed away in July 2016, we learned that she had left half of her estate in a trust for Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue. At the time, the trustee asked Phyllis what the rescue horses at Hidden Pond Farm needed most. The answer was “hay,” an essential food for the horses, and our largest expense.

To this day, Bonnie’s trust makes a monthly donation for hay, and often helps our fundraising efforts by matching our seasonal hay campaign donations dollar for dollar.

One of the best ways to help us plan for the future is to leave a legacy of your own.

There are several ways to leave a legacy, including bequests through your will or trust, designating Hidden Pond Farm as a beneficiary of your retirement account or life insurance policy, or establishing a charitable gift annuity or trust.

Please contact your legal and financial advisors to design a plan that works for you.

Thank you for considering a legacy gift—and for your dedication to Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue’s mission. We are grateful for your support.
